First Relief Convoy Departs for Kurram Under Tight Security

Peshawar: In line with the directives of the Chief Minister, Special Assistant for Information, Barrister Dr. Muhammad Saif, reached Kohat late at night to oversee the departure of the first relief convoy heading to Kurram.

Dr. Saif, along with the Commissioner Kohat, DIG, and other district administration and police officials, departed from Kohat towards Chappri, a border area near Kurram.

The convoy, comprising 75 large vehicles, is set to be dispatched under a strict security perimeter. Speaking on the occasion, Barrister Dr. Saif shared details about the convoy:

The fleet includes 22-wheeler, 10-wheeler, and 6-wheeler trucks carrying essential supplies. The convoy contains food items, medicines, gas cylinders, and other necessary goods to assist the affected areas.

The relief convoy is carrying:

  • 5 trucks loaded with medicines.
  • 10 trucks carrying vegetables.
  • 9 trucks of cooking oil and ghee.
  • 5 trucks of wheat flour.
  • 7 trucks carrying sugar.
  • 2 trucks filled with gas cylinders.
  • 26 trucks of other grocery items.

The vehicles have already reached Chappri, with law enforcement agencies and police ensuring the convoy's safety throughout the journey.

Barrister Dr. Saif reiterated the government’s commitment to providing uninterrupted aid to the people of Kurram and acknowledged the efforts of the district administration and security personnel in making this operation possible.

Earlier, the sectarian clashes and road blockades over the past three months have resulted in severe shortages of medicines and food in Kurram, leading to the deaths of over 300 individuals, including more than 150 children. However, following efforts by government and tribal jirgas, both parties have agreed to a peace accord. Subsequently, the roads in Kurram have been reopened, and relief operations have commenced.
